The ISAF Grade 2 Seven Feet Cup concluded on the 20th July after four days of racing in Vladivostok, Russia. Reuben Corbett (NZL) won the final defeating Olli-Pekka Lumijarvi (FIN).

71 matches were sailed during four racing days with the perfect sailing conditions on the water area of Amursky Bay in Vladivostok. 10 skippers met each other once for the round-robin and then the teams positioned 2nd – 7th proceeded into the quarterfinal stage for knock-out series.

Vladimir Lipavsky (RUS), Olli-Pekka Lumijarvi (FIN) and Wataru Sakamoto (JPN) managed to beat their opponents 2:1 and joined Reuben Corbett as semi-final participants.

Reuben Corbett (NZL) as the leader used his right to choose the opponent for the semi-finals and the honor was given to Vladimir Lipavsky (RUS). Olli-Pekka Lumijarvi (FIN) and Wataru Sakamoto (JPN) made up the second pair. At the same time skippers scored 10th to 8th after the round-robin and the losers of the quarter-final raced “King of the castle” knock-outs to challenge the better position inside the 3.

Corbett met Lipavsky and managed to win 3:0 both showing beautiful fights.  Lumijarvi (FIN) and Sakamoto (JPN) were having the tighter battle beating each other one by one. When the score became 2:2 in the evening of 19 July the Race Committee stopped races of the day to leave the last intriguing match for Sunday. That tight was lead by the Finnish skipper.

The petit final took place between Lipavsky and Sakamoto. Japanese team managed to beat the Russians three times in a raw and clinched the bronze medals for themselves.

The leader of round-robin Reuben Corbett with the Russian crew on board proved his strong position leaving no chance to his opponent beating him 3:0.

Reuben Corbett: “We are very glad because we did very well today. Russian crew was very coherent, worked fine and despite of my own mistakes we were very lucky at this regatta. We are very glad to win. It was not very easy to win here as the sailing was very close.”

The match racers shared the water of Amursky Bay of Vladivostok with 250 fleet racers, a tradition of 15 years for the Seven Feet Cup.
