Manuel Weiller won match race in Vladivostok


Manuel Weiller won match race in Vladivostok, Russia. Grade 2 event "Seven Feet Cup 2009" finished on shiny July 19th after 35 flights sailed during 4 long days of racing with weather ranging from sunny to rainy, from zero to strong winds sending the whole course very close to the shore.

After a lot of duels the leader of round-robin Andrew Arbuzov (RUS) formed the petit final together with Sergey Musikhin (RUS). Manuel Weiller (ESP) and Takumi Nakamura (JPN) beat their rivals 3 times in raw and got tickets for the final.


            The finals started on sunny morning with nice stable breeze. First match for the 3rd place was won by Musikhin, but then Arbuzov got the lead and gained two points in a raw winning the petit final. Grand final was also tense with very close sailing and competitors beating each other match by match in turns. The last match when the score was 2:2 started with Weiller just a bit in the lead, the difference grew and Spanish skipper was the first to round the windward mark. Nakamura luffed to interfere with his opponent while being still on different leg and was penalized.  This was the only penalty for the last match of the event. Manuel Weiller finished almost one minute before Nakamura and won the whole regatta.

The match race sailors shared water area of Amursky bay of Vladivostok with 250 participants of the fleet race which has been a tradition for 10 years of  "Seven Feet Cup's" history.
